Dear Parents/Guardians,
'It's all about the learning'
For those of you who have been to the school this week, you may have noticed the installation of our new security gates. We have installed them to ensure that students are kept safe in school. If you need to visit the school during the day you must now gain entry through these gates. There is an intercom for access, so that we can make sure that only visitors with a valid reason may enter the premises. The other gate will now be locked.
Our students once again did us proud this week with a number of our students being nominated for the Northfield Police Youth Excellence Awards. More students were nominated from Turves Green Boys' than from any other school in the area! Those nominated included James Dowen, Anthony Bessant, Luke Lawrence, Matthew Stroppolo and also the Year 10 football team for winning the Birmingham Cup last year. Luke Lawrence, who won his category for all of the outstanding work he has done in supporting other younger students, both at Turves Green Boys' and at local primary schools. Congratulations to all who attended.
In sport, the Year 10 Football team narrowly missed out on winning the South Birmingham Schools Cup after reaching the final which was held at Tally Ho. Their hard work on the pitch and positive attitude throughout has made them a credit to the school. I am excited to announce that The Year 11's are due to play the final of the Birmingham Cup at Villa Park on 16th May 2013. I am sure you will join me in wishing them every success with this amazing achievement.
This week has seen amazing maths exam results for year 11 students. Over 70% have already achieved a grade 'C' or better. Our best results ever! Although we are never complacent and are still working hard to improve even further supporting all students to get continually improving grades. Year 9 have also started their maths GCSE course and some students have already made a year’s progress in one term.
If you have any thought or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Simon Franks
